Subcomponents DC to Cloud migration
How Subcomponents Cloud differs from Subcomponents Data Center
While both versions share the same core logic, some features available in the Data Center edition are not yet supported in Jira Cloud due to platform limitations.
Feature | Jira Cloud | Jira Server / Data Center |
|---|---|---|
Component properties | ✅ Supported from v3.15.0 | ✅ Supported |
Version properties | ✅ Supported from v3.15.0 | ✅ Supported |
JSM Customer Portal integration | ❌ Not supported | ✅ Supported |
Subcomponents picker | 🔹 Hidden during issue creation – available only on the View issue screen | ✅ Available in both Create and View issue screens |
Migration process
The migration from DC to Cloud is a two-step process.
Step 1
Migrate Jira data such as projects, dashboards, issues, components, releases, etc... from Server/DC to Cloud. Atlassian recommends using JCMA (https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1222010/jira-cloud-migration-assistant) for this.
Step 2
Once the Jira data is in the Cloud, the app data can be migrated. We recommend using export-import functionality to do this.
Three features in the Subcomponents Cloud app can be migrated from the Data Center version of the Subcomponents app:
Subcomponents
Component versions
Packages
To migrate Subcomponents app data from Server/DC to Cloud, repeat these steps for Subcomponents, Component versions, and Packages features:
Open a specific feature in Jira DC and click “Export”.
Open the same feature in Jira Cloud. Navigate to “Import” and paste the content from an exported file:
After the import, you will have the same feature state as in Jira Server/DC:
Note:
We recommend updating the Subcomponent DC app to the latest version before migration.
