Breakdown
The Breakdown feature is a powerful tool across all three charts — Cycle Time Histogram, Time in Status Cycle Time, and Cycle Time Trend Charts — allowing you to dissect your data into meaningful segments. This feature provides deep insights into your workflow by breaking down the data according to specific criteria, enabling a more granular analysis of your team's performance.
The Breakdown feature is essential for gaining a deeper understanding of your team’s performance. By breaking down data across various segments, you can identify bottlenecks, monitor trends, and make data-driven decisions that improve efficiency and productivity.
Whether you’re focusing on how long tasks spend in specific statuses, analyzing cycle times, or tracking trends over time, the Breakdown feature provides the insights you need to optimize your workflow.
How to read the Breakdown table
Common options
The name of the selected time frame on the chart (e.g., "Last 6 Sprints") is displayed in the breakdown’s chevron, helping you quickly identify the scope of the data.
The “Breakdown” button allows you to change the segments inside the metric. You can choose from default system fields or any custom fields that fit your needs, providing flexibility in how you segment your data.
It is possible to “Reset” the selected Breakdown option ot revert back to the default suggested view.
You can expand or collapse the breakdown view to focus on the details you need. The state you select (expanded or collapsed) is saved when you switch between bars or highlighted areas on the chart.
It is possible to “Find issues” for the exact breakdown level - you will be scrolled down to the Issue list with the filtered issues scope.
Use the User preferences functionality to adjust your needs without “Edit” permission.
Cycle Time Histogram Chart Breakdown table
Metric displays the chosen metric, such as Cycle Time or Lead Time.
Total Count shows the total number of issues within the segment, giving you an overview of the workload in each category.
Min (Count) represents the minimum cycle time recorded within the segment. This column is available only when a specific area of the chart (such as a highlighted range) is selected. If an exact bar is selected, the Min (Count) column is not displayed.
Median, 50%, indicates that 50% of tasks were completed within this cycle time. This column is default but customizable, allowing you to switch it off or add new Statistics through the Visualization settings.
85% represents the 85th percentile of cycle times, showing that 85% of tasks were completed within this time. This column is also default but customizable through the Highlights option of the Visualization settings.
Max (Count) representing the longest time taken by any task in the segment. This column is visible only when a highlighted area or a specific range is selected on the chart. If an exact bar is selected, the Max (Count) column is not displayed.
Cycle Time Histogram Chart breakdown table changes if:
Click on a separate bar: metric name and the total issue count are present in the table. There is no data range to show the min, max. The Statistics values are not displayed in the table as they are related to the full chart scope in contrast to the specific highlighted area.
Click on a highlighted area: metric name, total issue count, min and max values of the range are displayed. The Statistics values are not displayed in the table as they are related to the full chart scope in contrast to the specific highlighted area.
Time in Status Cycle Time Chart Breakdown table
Statuses shows the individual statuses your tasks have passed through.
Total count is a total number of issues within each status.
Total time in status presents the cumulative time that tasks spent in each status.
% of total time in all statuses represents the percentage of the total workflow time that was spent in each status.
The Breakdown table columns of the Time in Status Chart do not change while clicking on stacked bars. It just filter the data inside according to the selected grouped time frame.
Cycle Time Trend Chart Breakdown table
Statistics display statistical metrics like Median, 85%, 95%, and others. These columns are fully customizable — you can switch them off or add new ones using the Statistics or Targets options in the Visualization settings.
Total count render the total number of issues within the selected segment, giving you a clear overview of the data scope.
Metric (Cycle Time/Lead Time) represents the duration for the selected metric, whether it's Cycle Time or Lead Time, based on your configuration in the Calculation tab. This helps you understand the time taken for tasks within each segment.
Trend indicates the direction and magnitude of change compared to previous intervals, showing whether performance is improving or declining.
The Breakdown table columns of the Cycle Time Trend Chart do not change while switching between time frames. It just filter the data inside according to the selected grouped time frame.
